Reef friendly sunscreens and skincare are formulated without oxybenzone and octinoxate, the chemical UV filters most associated with coral reef harm in scientific research. Most of the SPF formulas here use mineral zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead, alongside other UV filters not currently linked to reef damage. As with most environmental claims in beauty, this is a developing area of science and regulation, and we apply the badge where the formulation avoids the most implicated ingredients.
